Snape's school?!

Hi, Snape mun here, otherwise known as Alex! I've wanted to get this post up sooner than I have but blah, health issues have made it a bit difficult to get my thoughts together about it. :c BUT. As some of you may recall, Snape made this post on the network about starting up classes! Well, some information about said classes and, eventually, school:
  • While classes are going to be starting out in the library for the time being (I'm in the process of writing up a timetable of classes and what things are taught on what days), Snape has put in a business application to be granted a loan to build a school. Here is a very basic rundown of the school! I'll be adding more details to it as I work more details out! That is just the bare bones atm. (School rules will also be added; I'm currently in the process of writing those out, too.)

  • Classes are at the moment only offered to people 18 years and under. However! Classes will become available to adults if enough people are interested in their adult characters undertaking education.

So, just out of interest: who would be interested in their adult characters attending the school as students?

  • If your character is 18 or under and wants to attend classes/Snape's school, please leave a comment here so I can add your character to the student list.

  • The school will need teachers! Can your character teach? Is there something your character would like to teach? There are only four prerequisites for a character to do so:
    1) your character must be 18+ to be a teacher
    2) your character must be canonically skilled in the subject area
    3) the subject isn't already being taught by someone else
    4) your name isn't Lord Voldemort or Barty Crouch Jnr. SORRY, VOLDEMORT AND BARTY, SNAPE ISN'T GOING TO LET YOU ANYWHERE NEAR HIS STUDENTS, YOU PAIR OF EVIL BOLLOCKS.
If you'd be interested for your character to teach, please leave a comment here! There is an "official" thread for having your character sign up to be a teacher but that thread won't be opening until Snape's school is built and open. In the meantime, please leave a comment here expressing your interest and we can chat about it!

  • If you would like to suggest a subject to be taught, please leave a comment here!

If you want to suggest a subject but you're uncertain about doing so/want to discuss with me, please don't hesitate to contact me at my plurk or via Snape's journal!

  • To make the school interactive, there will be a House point system where people can earn (and lose) points for their House. It worked well with keeping people in line in Hogwarts, so Snape will be implementing the same in his school, haha. Thus far, I'm thinking school Houses will directly coincide with Asgard Houses; so, if your character is in Hel, for example, then they will also be in Hel House in the school.

Which brings me to how the points will be issued! At the moment, I'm thinking that the easiest way to go about it is for there to be contests at the school where people have to work together? Which will also benefit Asgard itself by helping to bring colour to the city due to people having to help one another/having to work together. One of the mods mentioned to me that Freyr would be willing to give small prizes now and again, as well.

I have made a thread specifically for suggesting contest/point earning ideas. Please, please, please - don't hesitate to leave ideas if you have them! Doesn't matter how silly you might think they are, suggest them! If you'd prefer to do so in private, you can of course hit me up with a private message on DW, or send me a private plurk!

I'm also thinking of doing a thing where people will have random chances to earn points for their House once a month based on using a RNG.

How points will be lost is if characters break the school rules in any way. Again, I'm in the process of writing out/working out school rules, so there'll be more info on losing House points once I've done that.
Phew, I think that's everything for now?! Any questions, just ask here or hit me up at my plurk, [plurk.com profile] spongebong.

As I've said, Sandy can teach World History. Of course, this only applies to Earth history up to the year 2012, so another teacher might be required if people from different worlds or from significantly further in the future want to learn about their own homes.

(Snape may or may not want to hire a translator for him. ^.^;; )

Ryan has a job at the moment BUT he would definitely like to help out, depending on how things go? Writing/literature's always been his best subject but he'd be good at a home ec kind of thing too, he knows knitting/sewing/cooking/other domestic stuff pretty well (and is a baker right now.)

If teaching didn't pan out he'd still be more than willing to sign on as a tutor or something when he's not at his other job, to ease the workload some on people running classes.

Giles is canonically a walking mythology encyclopedia and he already works at the library, so there's no way he could resist his interest in this

He also reads and speaks a lot of languages, so that's a possibility along with myth or history! Whatever he'd be wanted for.

Well, in his canon world, Soushi was known as one of the tutors of his peers as he taught anything and everything he was asked.

If I had to choice for him to teach a class, then I would like for him to teach either some sign language (as he found it very handy during the Gentlemen plot), all forms of math -- or at least the ones Japan teaches their students -- as he seems to have a gift for it (there is a scene he teaches Ririchiyo math and she masters it in the same scene), home economic might be fun as he knows everything about cleaning, cooking, and about fabrics and the like (he might learn to sew with his own students), or he could teach as a teacher's aid or volunteer as tutor in any/all subjects as, again, he has a knack of learning skills extremely quickly.

If neither are any good, then it is fine as well. This just sounds like a good idea for him to get a second job.

Sonya's qualified to teach martial arts-more practical than the showy sort. She's also willing to teach French, German, and Russian.

Clara would definitely jump on this. She's got a degree in literature so there's that going for her and she could probably teach her way around a history course despite her saying she's not a huge fan of history. If someone's already on board to teach both subjects, which I imagine they are, she'd probably volunteer to take on teaching the younger students and allow the other people to take on teaching the older kids.

I saw this when you put it up but I was brain-sick so couldn't think. Brax was professor of Theatrology, so he could pick that up again? Since the theatre isn't being used, it might be nice for him to get involved that way. Thoughts?

I would be than open for having Will teaching literacy, reading comprehension. He's all about how to comprehend things and I doubt he'd get aggravated with people who can't make those super quick and absurd "leaps" and "jumps" in logic. The library sounds like something he could work in with, too, if the others involved would like some help. I'll give them a PM about it to see if that would be cool with them, otherwise literacy would be just fine with me!
